Five Years at ROK Marsh – A Journey I Never Expected

Today marks five years since I joined ROK Marsh, and as the person behind all of our social media, I thought it was only right that I shared a little of my own story.

It's funny how life works sometimes.

Five years ago, I received a message from Matt Marsh, my old boss from a call centre where I worked as a teenager (and no, I'm definitely not revealing how long ago that was! 😂). He simply asked how I was doing.

At the time, I'd recently stepped away from my career in accountancy and payroll. I was working part-time in HR after having my youngest son, who was around 18 months old, and I was enjoying life as a new mum while figuring out what my next career move would be.

Then Matt asked me a question that would completely change my career.

"Fancy a career change and becoming a mortgage advisor?"

I thought, why not?

I turned up to what has to be one of the most informal interviews ever, complete with a packet of biscuits, and from that moment everything changed.

While I was studying to become a mortgage advisor with RBM Solutions, I was also running my own food business and creating all of the marketing for it. Matt noticed how much I enjoyed the creative side and asked if I'd help market a brand-new estate agency called ROK Marsh.

Before long, my accountancy background came back into play, and I began looking after the finances for both businesses. Payroll naturally followed, and over the years my role continued to evolve.

Fast forward to today and I'm incredibly proud to be Marketing & Finance Manager for both ROK Marsh and RBM Solutions.

Over the past five years I've completed a marketing qualification, become qualified in bookkeeping, taken on finance, HR and payroll responsibilities, and now I'm even studying photography so I can continue improving the content we create for our clients.

One of the things I love most about working here is that no two days are ever the same. One minute I'm creating marketing campaigns, the next I'm balancing company finances, organising payroll, planning events, taking property photographs or helping the team behind the scenes.

Looking back, I never imagined one message from an old boss would lead me here.

The biggest lesson I've learnt is to never be afraid of saying yes to opportunities, even if they take you completely outside your comfort zone. Some of the best decisions in life start with a simple conversation.

A huge thank you to Matt for believing in me from day one, and to every member of the ROK Marsh and RBM Solutions team who has been part of this journey. I'm incredibly grateful for everything we've achieved together and excited to see what the next five years have in store.
